Hello Cruelty Free Beauties,
Below we will discuss CREAM FOUNDATIONS! You'll find the basics to help you make the best choices for your skin.
Best for: dry, ultra dry or normal skin. Can be worn by oily skin types (technique on how to apply for oily skin will be discussed in further post) but generally not good for oily skin types because creams have an oil base.
Cream foundations are not water based but rather tend to be an oil or cream base. Because of this base they are heavier and provide the most coverage. That means that generally you will see and feel the makeup. With cream foundations you need to be careful because it can lead to a cakey look if overly applied. However, when applied properly cream foundation can create the look of having a milky complexion.
Generally they provides the fullest coverage: Medium or Full coverage but depending on the technique you can produce a sheer or light coverage.
Also creams provides the most moisturizing finishes: Dewy and Luminescent although Matte can be achieved with applying loose setting powder or selecting a cream to powder finish foundation.
Cream foundations can be analogous to concealers, which are meant to be heavy and provide full coverage, creams do that as well. Because of this they are the most buildable but can have the cakey look. However, depending on how the cream foundation is created and on the technique employed it can provide all coverages without that cakey look, this will be discussed in "Details: Cream Foundation" lecture. Because of the full coverage it makes them ideal for photography.
Even though cream foundations are analogous to concealers they are different because they generally have moisturizers that help soften and moisturize the skin so they aren't drying which is why they are ideal for ultra dry and dry skin.
Because the base is cream there is no water and therefore manufacturers can add a lot of great ingredients that are good for the skin and the foundation will last a long time!
Cream also will last the longest because of its thickness and because of the oil base will generally be waterproof.
