This is why although something may be considered safe when tested on animals when it moves to human trials it fails. In fact, 92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because they are too dangerous or don’t work.
Aside from the fact that animal testing is not conclusive, the methods by which animals are subjected to are horrendous. In the cosmetic industry, animals go through various testings, including but not limited to:
Skin and eye irritation tests where chemicals are rubbed onto the shaved skin or dripped into the eyes of restrained rabbits without any pain relief
Repeated force-feeding studies lasting weeks or months to look for signs of general illness or specific health hazards such as cancer or birth defects
Widely condemned "lethal dose" tests, in which animals are forced to swallow large amounts of a test chemical to determine the dose that causes death.
So, not only is animal testing a waste because most fail in human trials or cannot even go to human testing but it is also extremely traumatic to the animals involved.
This is why at INDI & ARY we don't support animal testing and don't carry brands that test on animals. You don't have to be vegan to be against animal testing and we know there are a lot of people out there that don't believe in animal testing and share the same values as we do.
We must always see the silver lining and do what we can to support a ban on animal testing.
Luckily advances have been made. There are now non-animal testing that can be done. There are nearly 50 non-animal tests that have been validated for use, with many more in development, such as using artificial human skin.
But better yet, Europe, the world’s largest cosmetic market, Israel and India have already banned animal testing for cosmetics, and the sale or import of newly animal-tested beauty products. Australia, also just passed a law banning animal-testing. And in Brazil and Taiwan there is now legislative bills that would ban animal testing in consideration. This is a huge win!
Now it's time for the USA to step up and ban animal testing. We can make our voices heard not just by signing petitions and calling our Congressman/woman but by also supporting those brands that don't test on animals and shopping consciously.
After all, bunnies are for hugging not testing!
